FeiWen - 3rd August - Sunday is Sunday.

Sunday is really Sunday, our work in the
Olympic Park Northern Area begins only on Monday,
so since the Welcome Volunteers event only starts at 4pm,
we decided to go out in the morning, but Jeanne Chicago,
my roommate, was not feeling well, so we went to a clinic,
a CHINESE clinic to be specific, where u can get chinese meds!
that's Helen Los Angeles in the Cap with her Fan,
i just realized they are both Americans & my roomies too!!!!
it was interesting to see the labeled drawers behind,
and a chinese medicinal practice doctor,
its just so interesting to watch, as he mix and match
since Jeanne Chicago needed to rest,
Kathy Michigan & I, went shopping with the
British, Canadian and European volunteers,
about 12 of us together in 3 cabs,
this is Kathy Michigan trying to buy a bag,
she manage to bargain from 95 to 50,
and she still thinks its EXPENSIVE????
tips from her when shopping in china
"speak mandarin, as perfect as you can,
so they wont think you're a foreigner,
and think you're rich!" hahahaha!
this is where we shopped, a WHOLESALE mall,
you can take a train/taxi to the Zoo, (near Xi Zhi Men)
walk the underground bridge to head to the opposite,
and you're right inside the mall already!
(MOVs, if u dunno how to go, call me!!!!)
we even bought matching black and white
CHEAP CHEONGSAM! 60yuan!
the traditional RED ones looks freaky on us anyway.
no changing rooms, we had to hide behind the cloth,
hold up by the sales lady, where people
is still passing & shopping around the shop,
about the size of my room in Malaysia! of all things we ate, we decided to go to McDonalds!

look! even their delivery is on a BICYCLE???? i didnt take a picture of Olivia Edmonton,Canada

we were both amused by the rows of shops all in chinese!

we were walking under the scorching hot summer sun,

towards a mall to get some Official Olympics Souvenirs
And it was really pretty!!! Huan Huan (the red one)

some of his items has already sold out!!!

so i better grabbed the super important ones!!!i think the bag itself is a souvenir already!

that cost me 510 yuan...... i only have about 400 left

for shopping..... im serious...... and this is only DAY 2!????!!!!

This is Mr. Mao Ze Dong,
a brilliant statue shot in the university grounds
of Jiao Tong University, established 112 years ago,
funny enough thats when the modern olympics started,
so its really a meaningful study place,
walking in the schol ground, hot as it may be,
its beautiful ................there's lots of trees!
a big pond clean and serene in the middle of the college

that WAS our Welcome Dinner on upon our arrival,
we meet soooooooooooooooooo many people!
i came up with a solution to rmb their names & origin!
Like this......some i hardly even talk to!
from left is KK Malaysia, Singaporean Guy,
Vivian Panama and Jeanne Chicago, USA.
Today at 4pm,
there was a welcome ceremony with performances,
speeches, i remember clearly the lady said
"no matter how many languages there is in this world,
no language can ever describe this experience"
poem reading, cheerleading and
the PROUDEST moment for me as an MOV
was when they announce,
there are only 300 plus overseas volunteers from 24 countries!
about 200 plus of them consist of 黑龙江/陕西/香港volunteers!
and believe it or not the rest is 华人华侨, which is us!!!!
i was thinking how absolutely privelege is that???
we cheer super loud (with the help of the American volunteers)
YAYYYYYYYYYYYY when they announce MALAYSIA!!!
it would be perfect if they have all venues all volunteers
coming together, and perfect 10 can sit together and cheer
Malaysia Boleh!!!!~~~
the most MOVING experience for me was the Olympic Torch,
these are two volunteers from the provinces of China,
they share with us their moments and also motivate us,
and they pass the torch around the hall for each and everyone
to experience that very very significant moment
of holding a very important symbol of the Olympics!

i was so moved, i did not teared,

it was a very humbling moment for me personally.

Jeanne Chicago helped me with this pic.

for those who will wish the best for all volunteers

~feiwen wrote this~
Yes, together we are united
with the same volunteer dream!
As a person with passion to give,
we are indeed eager & trying,
say, if we have RM1000,
we can go this far,
| - - - - |
and if we have RM5000
we can go even further,
|- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
and if we have more,
we can make the world go round!and even tho we're meant to suffice ourselves,
but with more support & faith & public help,
we will be able to carry & bring it along
together with our strength & skills,
knowledge, energy & patience,
and pass it on to someone
especially those who believe in us
it will really only take someone to understand GIVING,
to be able to GIVE to someone who will eventually GIVE.
you pass on your giving,
to one who will pass it on to another.
that's what i sincerely wish to say
and sincerely hope you do understand somehow.

[Thanks to Mr. Chong Yen Yoon from Sunshine Youth for preparing this with his team.]

Journey to be ONE of the 70,000 Olympic Volunteers

It has been a long journey until I received the letter of confirmation from BOCOG on 12 June 2008 that I am being selected as a Volunteer for the 29th Olympics Games in Beijing. YAY!

It started all the way back last year in March 2007 which my mum spotted a small advertisement in the local newspaper that BOCOG will be taking in volunteers from overseas. A simple question raised : "Are you interested?" without any doubt, i answered "YES!".

From there, i searched through the internet, enquiring some friends related to KBS, OCM... I registered through the general website of Beijing, and within a few months, the registration grew to an enormous number of applications from people all around the world. The chances of getting selected is smaller and smaller each and everyday...

I did not give up as this could be once in a lifetime opportunity to join and experience the biggest sports event in the world. Until i got to know that there will be a selection held in KL which I took a day off from my work to go for it. It was all worthwhile after a whole day of test and interview and hours of waiting... which I got selected!

However, this selection was only a preliminary one held locally, afterall it is all up to the decision from BOCOG, which everyone of us waited for months and months... with emails received from BOCOG requesting for information and more information... but not a final decisive answer on whether we are on the flight to Beijing.

At last, on 12th June 2008, the long awaited email arrived. Yes, 10 of us, the Olympic Volunteers from Malaysia are confirmed a ticket to Beijing!

I do hope that the 10 of us will do Malaysia proud and bring back all the sweet memories from (maybe) a once in a lifetime opportunity as an Olympic Volunteer.

We will carry the spirit of "Malaysia Boleh!" and "One World One Dream"

See you in Beijing, with 32 days to go...
